Description
Mass Extinction Through the Ages(Bugged)
Game Version
v.2.8.1(dfce)
What version do you use?
Steam
What expansions do you have installed?
Do you have mods enabled?

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
I've had this "bug" twice. I get the Mass Extinction Through the Ages Event about 2-5 years into the game. I can scan all of the planets exept for the Broken Planet. I have reloaded the save 5 times, I have put up and dismantled 2 space stations inhopes of it fixing it. But it hasn't. It isn't game breaking but its pissing me off leaving sh*t undone. Feel free to check for yourself with the save file.
Steps to reproduce the issue.
Simply get the Mass Extinction Through the Ages Event. If you can scan all of the planets, good for you. I still can't.

I've checked this issue. In the save game only the event flag on the asteroid is missing, which is after the actual code impossible as the project is correct on the object (so the code seems correct). So something inexplicable is going wrong here. If you call event country.1105
the Broken Planet Project resets and you can research another asteroid !?

So, the project is just incompletable? There is no way to fix it?

Call event country.1105
in the console. Normally the project is correct. I don't know what is going wrong, why the event flag is missing (as said, it is theoretically impossible). Have you an very early save game from the project!?

Sadly no, that is the only save I got from that game.

PS: You can also manually set again effect set_planet_flag = massex_1_planet
on the asteroid, leave the system and reenter. Something unexplainable has removed or blocked the flag...
This solved the project for me.

After searching again I found
an anomaly in the code exact to this event (as there are 5 near equal events for each project objects and this is the only line which differ), there is a scope error
in line 2048.
I think this gets fixed with 3.0 anyway, as random_planet gets removed (if we assume each use gets not only replaced).

Something is not normal with your save game, this seems a multiplayer game. The missing event flag exists, but on the other end of the galaxy (which is normally also not possible) on a system owned by another player, which was in fact also played by a human player (country no_ai flags). So I'm leaving the tangle here.

It is a multiplayer game, and the other player had the same issue that somehow corrected itself, I don't have his saves sadly. But thank you for trying.

That's the point, as far as I've seen, this event is not designed for multiplayer! There must be simply a restriction that this event can only appear once at a time.
Simple fix would be to put this on line 1699 at country_events_2.txtany_playable_country = { has_event_chain = mass_extinction_chain }
PS: I'm also wondering there is not more restriction on the random Starting Event gatekeeper, so the possibility for no starting_event at all is much higher.
