Panera began in 1987 as St. Louis Bread Company, a humble community bakery founded with a sourdough starter from San Francisco and a dream of putting a loaf of bread in every arm. Finding truth in history is about understanding that this truth is not absolute. In this sense, truth is based on perspective. The perspective of the person who captured it and the person interpreting it. And the perspective of the translators and editors and primary sources.
No historian can be 100% objective, but historians try to recognize their own limitations and biases. Historians try not to place the values, beliefs, behaviors, and attitudes of the present onto the topics they study.
History is more than just a set of facts; it also includes the interpretation of facts. We call this “historiography:” the study of studying history. Even if you don't know the word, you do this all the time!
They gather and weigh different kinds of evidence, including primary sources (documents or recollections from the time period being studied), material artifacts, and previous scholarship (secondary sources).
Historians use other types of sources to understand history as well. Secondary sources are written accounts of history based upon the evidence from primary sources. These are sources which, usually, are accounts, works, or research that analyse, assimilate, evaluate, interpret, and/or synthesize primary sources.
In the end, people may trust history only if there are several versions of an event or story, and those versions concur; historians can become trustworthy if they offer material pieces of evidence. On the other hand, one should never rely on only a single source of information.
