Things to know before closing your Chase account
Before pulling the plug on your current account with Chase UK, there are a few key things you need to know:
- You can only close Chase accounts in-app if you have a positive balance. This means you can’t be overdrawn, so you’ll need to pay back what you owe before shutting down your account.¹
- You can access statements for up to six years after closing your account.¹ But it’s likely you’ll have deleted the app or forgotten your login details by then, so it could be best to download any statements you’re likely to need before closing your account.
- If you have a Chase Saver account, it’ll be automatically closed when you shut down your current account (if it’s your last remaining Chase account). So you’ll need to move any savings balance to a different account.²
How to close a Chase current account - step-by-step
The only way to close a Chase account is in the mobile app. You can’t do it online, and Chase doesn’t have any physical branches you can pop into either.
Here are the steps to follow in the app:¹
- Open the Chase app and sign in
- Tap the three dots
- Select ‘Close account’
- Follow the on-screen instructions to close your account.
How to close a Chase Saver account
The process to close a Saver account with Chase is pretty much the same as above. You’ll need to go into the mobile app, select the account and follow the instructions to close it.
Are there any other ways to close an account with Chase?
There aren’t any other ways to close an account with Chase - you’ll need to do it in the mobile app.
But if you don’t have access to the app or you need help, you can call Chase on 0800 376 3333. If calling from abroad, the number is +44 203 493 0829.³
You can also use the Current Account Switch Service to move from Chase to another bank, where all payments and payees are moved over to the new account automatically.
Are there any fees to close a Chase account?
No, Chase doesn’t charge any fees to close any of its accounts.
