As a student at the University ofPuerto Rico from 1973-77, I along with 38,000 other students experienced twoshutdowns which caused many of us not to graduate on time. And that implied forsome of us to take two summer sessions with 18 credit hours, something youwould need not only your counselors’ approval but the dean of your school.
I ended completing courserequirements in December 1977, and got commissioned into the US Army on January10th, 1978. This was six months after my original expectedgraduation date. I reported to activeduty on January 11th, 1978 at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and remainedthere until mid-February until my Basic Military Intelligence Basic OfficersCourse was scheduled to start.
The implications not only affected mygraduation, since anyone who met course requirements in December would graduatethe following summer, so My diploma say June of 1978. A graduation I missedsince I was already on Active duty. And even worst, lost my initial assignmentin the Army, since I had to be rescheduled to a different Officers Basic Coursein Feb of 1978. All that thanks to 3,000plus Socialist (PSP) Partido Socialista Puertorriqueno), Communist (FUPI) Federacion Universitaria pro Independencia)students who shut down a university of 38,000 plus students.
Remember in 1978 you did not havevirtual classes, you went home, and if you were boarding in student housing youwere also sent home. UPR was and is the top campus in PR where students come fromall over the island come to Rio Piedras.So, the businesses around the campus thrive with university life and intheir absence their sales and services also suffered.
One thing is to march for a cause, tohave a sit in, and another thing is to shut down a university, stop others fromattending classes, destroying property, chanting slogans like
“Deathto America ““Fight for Worldwide Intifada” ... yes go find the definition ofIntifada and how many have been against Israel.... and then think who are theytargeting if they want worldwide Intifada. Or why would you permit someone todesecrate your flag? like they have permitted at Columbia University
Why would you have a Hezbollah flag?A worldwide known terrorist organization, and why do you cover your faces? So,history once again repeats itself, when an older person tells you to becareful, watch for these indicators and warnings is for something they havealready lived through.
The left, and yes when we say left itreflects Communism, and its bastard child Socialism are behind these movements.The slogans, the Modus operandi is the same. And they are rallying behind whatcould have been a noble cause “Stop the War” “free the hostages” “Ceasefire”More aid to Gaza”
Caveat Emptor (Buyer beware) read thehistory, our universities are full of left-wing professors who teach with andunderlying purpose. Why if you want to stop a War do you need to say: “Downwith Capitalism?” or “Fight for World Intifada?” Don’t become a useful stoogewhere someone who you think is supporting your cause takes over and injectshis.
You end up being the fool, jailed,criminal record that will carry on for the rest of your life. Your time as astudent is to absorb like a sponge knowledge, determine right from wrong andknow how to challenge injustice via elections, and taking stances to createchange.
Anytime there is violence, totaldisrespect to justice, anarchy, insubordination you are on the wrong side ofhistory. And when you mature and grow out of your university years you will payyour consequences. Who will hire a violent instigator? Or one who desecratesthe flag that permits him/her to voice his opinion? Or chants slogans and holdsflags of terrorist organizations? Keepthat in mind.
And as a foot note the UPR has had several incidents wherestudents and police officers got killed and the crime never been solved.

Por lo tanto,los negociosalrededor del campusprosperan con lavida universitariay, en suausencia, sus ventas y servicios también sufrieron.
Una cosa es marchar por una causa, hacer una demonstracion, y otra cosa escerrar una universidad, impedir que otros asistan a clases, destruirpropiedades, corear consignas como "Muerte aEstados Unidos" "Lucha por la Intifada Mundial"... Sí, vayan abuscar la definición de Intifada y cuántos han hecho en contra de Israel... yluego póngase a pensar a quién se dirigen si quieren una Intifada mundial. ¿Opor qué permitirías que alguien profanara tu bandera? como lo han permitido enla Universidad de Columbia?
¿Por qué tendríasuna banderade Hezbolá? Una organizaciónterrorista mundialmente conocida, ¿ypor quése cubrenla cara?Entonces, la historiauna vezmás serepite, cuando unapersona mayor tedice quetengas cuidado, queestés atentoa estosindicadores y advertenciases poralgo queya havivido.
La izquierda, ysí, cuandodecimos izquierda reflejael comunismo,y suhijo bastardo,el socialismo,están detrásde estosmovimientos. Los eslóganes,el modusoperandi es elmismo. Y se están uniendodetrás de loque podríahaber sidouna causanoble: "Detengan la guerra","Liberen a losrehenes", "Altoel fuego", Másayuda aGaza. CaveatEmptor (Cuidado alcomprador) lea lahistoria, nuestras universidadesestán llenasde profesoresde izquierdaque enseñancon unpropósito subyacente. ¿Porqué, siquieres detener unaguerra, necesitas decir:"¿Abajo el capitalismo?" o "Luchapor la Intifada Mundial"?
No te conviertasen untonto útilen elque alguien que creesque estáapoyando tu causase hacecargo einyecta la suya.Terminas siendo eltonto, encarcelado, conantecedentespenales que continuaránpor elresto detu vida.Tu tiempocomo estudiantees absorbercomo unaesponja el conocimiento,determinar lo correcto delo incorrectoy sabercómo desafiarla injusticiaa travésde eleccionesy tomarposturas para crearun cambio.Cada vezque hayviolencia, falta totalde respetoa lajusticia, anarquía, insubordinación,estás enel ladoequivocado de lahistoria. Y cuandomadures y superestus añosuniversitarios, pagarás tusconsecuencias. ¿Quién contrataráa uninstigador violento? ¿Oalguien que profanala banderaque le permiteexpresar su opinión?¿O coreaconsignas y sostienebanderas de organizacionesterroristas? Tenlo encuenta.
Y como notaal calse de página,la UPRha tenidovarios incidentes enlos queestudiantes y policíasfueron asesinados yel crimennunca seresolvió. Jacinto Gutiérrez,nacido en Ponce,Puerto Rico, fueun sargentocadete del Cuerpode Entrenamientode Oficialesde la Reservadel Ejércitode la Universidadde PuertoRico enRío Piedrasque fueasesinado el 11de marzode 1971en eledificio del Cuerpode Entrenamientode Oficialesde laReserva del Ejércitodurante un motínde gruposque seoponían a la presencia delprograma en elcampus. [1] Durantelos disturbios,dos oficialesde laPolicía de PuertoRico, el comandante del Escuadrón Antimotines Juan Birino Mercadoy el sargento Miguel Rosario Rondón, también perdieron la vida. [2] [3] Nadieha sido acusado de su asesinato. [4] [5]
